What We Thought Digital Cartoon
What we thought happened when we left the church and what they thought happened when we left the church are two totally different things.
Because we thought they cared.
I talk a lot about leaving the church, and I'm still surprised by many of the heartless responses that are basically like, "You left a group and you're mad at them because you left the group!? Don't be such a cry-baby!"
Talk about a lack of self-awareness and empathy.
It doesn't just happen in churches, but in families too. I've seen it with my own eyes.
I believe the infamous proclamation, "You are dead to me!", was started in a family.
When someone leaves a group or a relationship, shouldn't the ones left ask themselves, "What role did I play in this tragedy?"? My observation is they hardly ever do. They blame the departed and get on with their unexamined lives.
I experienced this cartoon in a couple of churches. Talk about being ghosted! It was like I had literally died!
It shouldn't be like that.
